And the logic wins again

I walked in the kitchen tonight and Bela was running water in the kitchen sink.

Me: What are you doing Bela?
Bela: Running some water
Me: And what is this water for?
Bela: To wash my feet
Me: And why would you need to wash your feet in my kitchen sink?
Bela: Because they are dirty.

Nothing Exciting

I have absolutely nothing to post about, but I wanted to post anyway. I have done nothing out of the ordinary today. I got up, fixed breakfast, taught the kids, watched the news for five minutes, taught the kids some more, while chasing the baby around, cleaned house, did dishes, did laundry, went to the front gate and signed the flute teacher in, sat through Brittany's lesson, finished up school, walked 3 miles (a half a mile more than my usual 2 1/2), cleaned some more, made dinner, watched Brittany's soccer practice, helped the girls with their cross stitch, and cleaned some more. I got the baby to sleep and Bela and Kassie are in bed. Now the older girls and I are about to watch the Season finale of Tru Calling (we are a little behind here I think). Relaxing sounds good!

A present for Mommy

Danijela was holding something between her two cute little fingers this evening. When I held out my hand and asked her what it was she dropped it into the palm of my hand. I took a good look at the dusty remains of the dead moth in my hand and told Danijela, "Thank you honey!" She returned my thanks by saying "ACH!"

School Days and a pre-two year old

Today is the first day of homeschool and it is going pretty well. The only problem is Danijela. She is in rare form. She started out this morning while I was getting the girls started. She pushed the step ladder over to the sink and decided to do dishes. I had already run the water and done the breakfast dishes. She took a cup that I had already washed, filled it with water, and then poured it on the floor. Then she got down, opened the drier and pulled out the dry clothes onto the puddle of water. I got the girls going and cleaned up that mess. Danijela walked by me and boy did she stink so I changed her diaper and went back to help the girls with their spellings. Danijela went the other way, got in the cupboard in the bathroom and got the hand soap out and poured it in her hair and scrubbed it up good with her hands. Then she got it in her eyes and came into the kitchen crying. I put the kids to work on something they didn't need help with and stuck her head under the kitchen sink faucet. Got her eyes and hair washed out, set her in the middle of the kitchen with a coloring book and colors and went back to teach the girls Math.

Danijela was right in the room with us, what trouble could she get into? Apparently there was a little trouble she could get into. She dumped the garbage and while I was cleaning that up she went over to the sliding glass doors and finger painted the clam chowder, that she had apprently gotten all over her hands from the garbage, all over the glass. The girls kept steady at their work while I cleaned that up. Then I helped them all out with what they needed help with. In the meantime, Danijela got ahold of a Capri Sonne that one of the girls had set on the counter, unfinished. She squirted what was left of the Capri Sonne all over the freshly scrubbed kitchen floor. Hmmm terrible twos??? I think so. I have just sent the kids out for their first recess WITH DANIJELA. It has only been an hour and a half of home schooling so far. The older kids are loving it! They are doing great, but Danijela doesn't have any playmates so she is getting into trouble. I wonder what I can do to entertain her.

Matthew Wilson

Bela's best friend and love of her life (she is four) is our next door neighbor Matthew. The other day Matthew (who is also four) told his dad... "Bela said WHEN we get married I will have to take her last name!" I am still laughing so hard my eyes are watering. They start this women's lib thing pretty young nowadays!

Gung Ho Soccer Moms

The one thing I can't stand about some soccer parents is how they sit on the sidelines and scream at their kids and everyone else's. There are two parents in particular and both of their kids are on our team. They sit on the sidelines literally screaming at their kids for the mistakes they make and telling all the kids "You haven't scored yet, come on!" I just keep telling my kids how proud I am of them and how I think they did such a good job even if they didn't win. They spent two full hours each running around on that field and that I am proud of. They both tried really hard, got in there, went after the ball, got kicked, tripped and trampled just like the winning teams did and they played hard. I believe kids need to hear their parents on the sidelines telling them that they are doing great! Yes I was proud that Brittany scored a goal and yes I was equally proud of Gabby, who didn't score any goals beause she did something new, she worked hard and she tried her best.

Cold Soccer Morning

Today was Brittany and Gabby's first soccer games and they both had double headers. I drug all the kids out of bed at 7 this morning and fed them breakfast and got the girls out there. It was so darn cold out there. The fall wind was blowing and we were wrapped up in blankets and the clouds rolled in threatening to pour on us at any minute.

But the rain stayed at bay and Brittany got to play her two games first. First they put her in as goalie, which she didn't like very well and therefore didn't do very well either. After they moved her in where she was in contact with the ball, she was a whiz. She even scored one of the teams two goals. They didn't win, but she played extremely well and that made me proud!

Gabby was next. Her team was a little larger and she plays in the minors because she is younger. They only play half the field and have shorter games. She didn't see too much time with the ball, but what she did play was excellent! I wish we would have gotten her on the majors, I think she would have done extremely well!

After four hours in the cold wind I was too tired to bother with lunch and the kids had worked so hard that I took them out for lunch. I let Brittany and Gabby go over to the Teen Center to watch a movie and Kassie and Bela are watching Little House on the Prairie. My friend just stopped by to see if Brittany and Gabby could stay the night with her and help her with her kids tonight. So I am two kids shy tonight and the other two go to bed early. What on earth will I do with my time??? Maybe I will actually sleep. Novel idea!

More antique books

Today was lots of fun. The girls and I went to my friend's house and went blackberry picking. We walked down to the river and climbed through brambles to find the best most beautiful berries. It was a lovely fall day. The air was crisp and the wind was blowing, but the sun was shining beautifully! Then we spent the rest of the afternoon in her house. The kids played well together and we grown ups had tea and looked at some old books that Pam bought at an auction. She bought three boxes of books for a pound. She took out what she wanted and offered us the rest. I added some books to my collection today.

1) Tannahill's Poems and Songs C 1900
2) The National Song Book C 1906 (this is a collection of old English, Irish, Welsh and Scottish songs)
3) Hymns Ancient and New (the only date I can find on this Hymn book is 1889)
4) Foxe's Book of Martyrs C 1938
5) Welcome Hour a monthly magazine dated January 1886 (this is actually bound like a book)
6) Shooting to Live...I wouldn't have gotten this book, but it had a letter in it dated 1942 and it was signed by the author.

My friend and I had a blast looking through these old books, she also enjoyed looking through the London Kalender that I bought a few days ago dated 1798. This book is really neat. It has the calender from that year and lists of important dates in history. It also has listed all of the House of Commons and the House of Peers (Lords I assume) for that year and ALL of the military serving around the world. We have found a lot of interesting facts in this book. (I just found a copy of this same book dated 1807 which is later than mine and it is selling for 575 us dollars I got mine for 10 pounds)

I found a fun song in the National Song Book called "The Roast Beef of Old England" words and music by Leveridge

When Mighty roast beef
was the Englishmen's food
It enobled our hearts
and enriched our blood
Our soldiers were brave
and our courtiers were good

Oh the roast beef of England And oh for England's roast beef.

And then they all got mad cow disease! hahahahaha

Tomorrow the girls will be playing their first soccer (football) games. I have to be on the field with Brittany at 9:30 and she has two games then Gabby's games start at 11:30 and she will have two games. That means I will be on the soccer fields for a total of four hours watching these kids play. Gosh I hope it's not raining!!

Can you see smell?

Every since I wrote this post about Danijela and the way she reacts to feet I have had about ten hits a day that are searching for "Pictures of smelly feet" that in itself is quite disturbing, but what I really want to know is this...How do pictures of smelly feet look any different than pictures of feet that don't smell?
